...who calls so loud is one of the bands that emerged from Funeral Diner's ashes. The others are Sterling Says and Lemonade, and ...who calls so loud is definitely the best. They also have members from Portraits of Past and I Wrote Haikus.... The band is most often referred to as "that new Funeral Diner band" which I don't think is an inappropriate comparison. The specialize in dark melodic hardcore/screamo, and even did a European tour shortly after forming. The songs go from slow, introspective instrumentals to epic bursts of guitars, drums, and screaming. On the LP, 'Assume The Power Focus' begins with a country-like intro. At first I thought "wtf?" but it's kind of nice. The end of 'What I Learned At The C.O.U.M.' is amazing, and kind of reminds me of Funeral Diner's 'Shifting'. Which is definitely good. The EP focuses on instrumentation even further, with two completely scream-less tracks and a long intro and outro on 'Lark vs. Rascal'. I don't like the first track; it's too different from their sound. The third is good though, using acoustic and electric guitars over the piano. 'M'ed Palms' and 'Sleeplike' are the epic melodic screamo tracks found on the bands myspace. Pay extra attention the drums in ...who calls so loud: Matt Bajda is one of the best. It seems like they're going to break up soon... I'm really disappointed I couldn't see them last year when they stopped near Philadelphia. If you like screaming, download these. LP: 9/10 EP: 8/10
